PUSHING THROUGH THE NIGHT. Italy’s Lancia factory mounted a full-scale assault on the 1954 Sebring race, but all four of their V6-powered D24 cars dropped out one by one. Last to go was no. 38, which broke down while in the lead with an hour to go. Piero Taruffi kept it going with muscle power alone, but pushing meant disqualification.
