Who’s Pete Lyons?

Well, we’re still figuring that one out, but here’s what we know so far.

Pete Lyons is a writer and photographer specializing in the automotive field, particularly motorsports. Son of Ozzie Lyons, who taught him how to shoot sports car racing in the Northeastern U.S. in the 1950s, Pete has made a career of reporting on such diverse forms of the sport as Can-Am, Formula 1, USAC, CART and IRL Indycar, Trans-Am, Formula 5000, FIA and ALMS long-distance, Off-Road and many others.

His career began with publication of a single photo in 1958, followed in 1964 by his first race report. His work has now appeared in such outlets as Autosport, AutoWeek, Car and Driver, Road & Track and Vintage Racecar, plus dozens more published all over the world. For a total of five years he served as sit-down editor of two monthly automotive magazines in the U.S., while his photographs have been used in books published by Robt. Bentley, David Bull, Haynes, MBI and others.

Pete has won writing awards from the International Motor Press Assoc., the Road Racing Drivers Club and the Motor Press Guild, which gave his 1995 book “Can-Am” that year’s Dean Batchelor Award. That was one of the six published books he’s authored to date (yes, more are on the way).
